Over 19,000 nurses from across Madhya Pradesh went on a strike on Tuesday and threatened to go on an indefinite protest from November 9 if the government didn’t fulfil their demands that include better salaries.

The strike hit medical services but the nurses said some of their colleagues were asked to stay back to take care of bed-ridden patients.
“The remuneration that we receive under the second grade pay is not enough for us. We demand the government to change our designation to ‘nursing officers’,” said Manju Meshram, the president of Prantiya Nurses’ Association.
The nurses are on strike over the Seventh Pay Commission and their seven-point demands.
