From conducting the survey of hand pumps in villages, attending public hearings, participating in health department campaigns, preparing voter ID cards to maintaining record of Aadhaar card holders are some of the tasks that the MP government teachers have done in the past three years in addition to teaching in schools.
The data was provided during a seminar organised by MP Right to Education (RTE) Forum on Thursday.
According to the data, there are around 30 non-teaching tasks in which government teachers of were involved in past three years.
The data was the outcome of a survey conducted by convener of Teachers’ Resource Group (an organisation of government teachers), Damodar Jain.
"I interacted with various government teachers working even in remote villages to find out what else they were asked to do by the department besides teaching. I also interacted with various trainers who organise training programmes for government teachers to know the experiences shared by teachers with them during training. All these interactions and monitoring in the past three years helped me identify these 30 tasks," said Jain.
Jain who himself is a teacher said the involvement of government teachers in various tasks affect the teaching.
He said despite the government’s repeated claims that the teachers would not be engaged in non-teaching jobs, there are at least 30 non-teaching tasks which the government teachers were compelled to do in the past three years.

{{/usCountry}}The survey also states that the Samagra ID programme has adversely affected the teaching in government schools.
Teachers have to invest a lot of time in assuring that there was no duplication of ID cards or any other mistake in it.
