The cane charge took place near Barkhedi railway crossing when victims of the 1984 tragedy, demanding adequate compensation, squatted on the main Delhi-Chennai line affecting traffic on both Up and Down routes.

Angry protesters then pelted stones at the police damaging one of their vehicles and also OB van of a private news channel.
