The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) in Jabalpur directed the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti to prepare a revised selection list of candidates and issue fresh appointment orders within three months following a case relating to fraudulent recruitment of teachers in the Navodaya Vidyalayas of Bhopal region in 2013.
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti regional office, Bhopal, manages nearly 100 Navodaya schools in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Selection list was prepared on the basis of a forged list of interview marks
The tribunal disposed seven petitions filed by 79 people who were terminated from the services in January, 2016 after a departmental inquiry and a central bureau of investigation (CBI) probe confirmed that the selection list was prepared on the basis of a forged list of interview marks. The probe, however, found no irregularities in the list of written test marks.
The applicants were working on various posts of the miscellaneous category teachers since their appointment in September, 2013.
The CAT directed the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti to constitute a three-member committee of senior officers to examine the documents filed by the candidates and give marks out of 60 fixed for the interview as per the criterion. The new scores will be added to the written examination marks.
A CAT bench comprising judicial member Jasmine Ahmed and administrative member GP Singhal said, “Many of the selectees had resigned or got relieved from their earlier posts to join the posts under the respondents. Thus, it is not impossible to work out some mechanism to provide relief to the candidates who deserved to be selected on their own merit.”
