Waqf Board chairman Shaukat Mohd Khan said on Tuesday he would not reply to the notice served by former MP Gufran-e-Azam on behalf of Aukaf-e-Shahi (royal trust). Azam, in his notice, claimed rent from Wakf Board and some more institutions as their offices are located on Taj Premises.

Azam's counsel, who served the legal notice on these bodies, had contended that Taj Premises was donated by erstwhile ruler of Bhopal Shahjehan Begum and as such, it was property of Aukaf-e-Shahi.

"Who is Gufran-e-Azam? Waqf Board is not supposed to reply to notice served by any Tom, Dick and Harry. If there is a query from Saba Khan (daughter of Nawab Patuadi), who is custodian of aukaf-e-shahi, I will reply; but not to Gufran, who is trying to project himself as Aukaf-e-Shahi's local custodian," said Shaukat Mohd Khan, who is having a running battle with Gufran-e-Azam, who also happens to be his predecessor as Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board chairman.

"Let him go to court. There is no legal issue involved. When he was himself Waqf Board chairman, he never thought of paying rent to Aukaf-e-Shahi. Azam is bothered by a number of investigations taken up against him and therefore he is acting in this manner,' Shaukat added.
