This is the fourth case in less than a week when a pregnant woman had to go through painful experience of delivery. In this incident, an ambulance arrived in time to shift the mother and her baby to a hospital.

Shobha Vishwakarma, 28, was travelling with her husband Prakash to Itrasi. Seeing her in pain, other women passengers assisted Shobha to deliver the baby in a makeshift arrangement.

“Shobha was accompanying me. We had some work at Itarsi. As soon as we got down from the train, she went into labour. Other passengers came to our rescue and made a tent of sarees hurriedly. She delivered our daughter on a railway foot over bridge,” Prakash said.

A call to 108 ambulance service promptly elicited a response and the mother and daughter were safely shifted to the government hospital in Itarsi.

Three cases were reported within a week where pregnant women were carried on a tractor, on a cycle and even had to walk in labour to reach a hospital or a health care centre.
