It is quite an interesting time for women to be part of the film industry - in a traditionally hero-oriented Bollywood that is largely driven by male audience, fermale-centric and women driven movies are not only making it to the cinema halls but also setting cash registers ringing at the box office. The latest to join the league of Deepika Padukone (Piku), Kangana Ranaut (Queen) and Vidya Balan (Kahaani) is Alia Bhatt. After receiving great laurels for her performance in Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi, her film has now crossed the much-coveted Rs 100-crore-mark at the box office. In fact, it has earned close to Rs 110 crore so far.
Raazi rides on Alia’s shoulder as she plays the lead character of an Indian spy married into a Pakistani family.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures, “#Raazi continues its GLORIOUS RUN... UNAFFECTED by new films/holdover titles... Mere 48.03% decline in Week 3 - SUPERB TRENDING... Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is based on a book by Harinder Sikka. The film is about a Kashmiri Muslim girl who is planted as a spy in Pakistan by the Indian agencies in the backdrop of 1971 war with Pakistan. Director Meghna wanted her protagonist to look vulnerable yet determined, and Alia emerged as the perfect choice for the role.
