Alia Bhatt’s Raazi springs a surprise at box office, easily crosses Rs 50 crore mark

Raazi has Alia Bhatt as an Indian woman who marries a Pakistani military officer in order to spy for her country during the 1971 India-Pakistan War.

Alia Bhatt has proved her mettle at the box office in Raazi, a film totally dependent on her star-power. The film, directed by Meghna Gulzar, has refused to slow down at the box office. It has already crossed the Rs 50 crore mark. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted the film’s business figures. He says Raazi’s total collection is Rs 51.24 crore in first six days of its release.

Raazi is on course to become a hit.

What most critics liked about the film is its human take on the India-Pakistan relationship. Unlike most of the Bollywood films on similar subjects, Raazi catches the emotional similarities between the people of both the countries.

In a conversation with PTI, Meghna Gulzar said she wanted to steer clear of resorting to sloganeering or Pakistan-bashing to make the film saleable.

“The story itself is such a powerful one that we don’t need planks of placard carrying jingoism... You say what to say and you do that simply and honestly. When you are making a film on patriotism and you are not bashing Pakistan, you need brave people to back it,” said Meghna.

Alia will next be seen with Ranveer Singh in Gully Boy.
