Bol Bachchan is Ajay and Abhishek’s film: Asin

With three blockbusters already in her kitty, Asin is looking forward to her next film with Rohit Shetty.

Just three-and-a-half years old in Bollywood and Asin is already a member of the enviable R100 crore-plus club with three of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters, Ghajini (2008), Ready (2011) and Housefull 2 (2012). Yet, the credit for these top grossers has gone to her heroes, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. The actor herself is unaffected.

“I didn’t come into the industry to be in history books. Every movie is a gamble for any actor and it’s a relief when it turns out to be a hit. But I’m not the kind to shout about my achievements from the rooftops,” she says, adding that even though she has worked with some of the biggest stars and acted in some of the biggest hits, success is not only about bouquets.

“If there are 100 people, there will be 200 opinions and not all of them will be positive. It’s okay, at the end of the day, the numbers speak for me.” Asin has another big film coming up, Rohit Shetty’s Bol Bachchan, that is expected to also rake in the crores.

However, she candidly admits that even though Sania Bachchan is the most down-to-earth character in the film, Bol Bachchan’s focus is on the interactions between Prithviraj Raghuvanshi and Abhishek Bachchan/Abbas Ali. “This is Ajay (Devgn) and Abhishek’s film.

I did it because it sounded interesting and I laughed during the narration itself. And that’s pretty rare. Also, it’s a contemporary remake of a cult classic from the 1970s, Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Gol Maal (1979). I’m glad to be part of this team,” she asserts. What was her first reaction to a film called Bol Bachchan? “Surprise!” she laughs. “But now I understand that it’s got nothing to do with Abhishek or the Bachchan family. It’s a commonly used slang for someone who tells tall tales.”
