Hours before the film releases and a day before the reviews appear, here’s what you can expect from this week’s release(s)…
Film: Nautanki Saala
Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana (last seen in Vicky Donor; 2012), Kunaal Roy Kapur (last seen in Delhi Belly; 2011), Evelyn Sharma (last seen in From Sydney with Love; 2012)
Storyline: The film is a remake of the French comedy, Après Vous (2003). A theatre actor-director (Ayushmann Khurrana) saves a suicidal bumbling actor (Kunaal Roy Kapur) only to find himself cast in a comedy of errors.
Director: Rohan Sippy
(Last directed Dum Maaro Dum in 2011)
He gave the industry Rana Daggubati (he made his debut) and an item song featuring Deepika Padukone that created an all-new crater for despicable lyrics to go drown themselves in. It received a mixed response from critics and the cash registers at the box office.
Music: Mikey McCleary
Madhuri Dixit’s hit song ‘Dil dhak dhak’ from Beta (1992), which has been recreated for this film and sung by Saba Azad, has become a sensation. Ayushmann, who sang the song ‘Paani da rang’ in Vicky Donor (2012), crooned for this one too, Sadi galli has been received very well.
The lead actors staged a small show at the trailer launch, where Ayushmann made fun of Kunaal for his initials, KRK, and his older brother Siddharth, whose initials are SRK. Fearing an unnecessary conflict, director Rohan Sippy requested the media to not highlight the stunt, which of course didn’t happen.
Actor-singer Ayushmann has been placed at various events (he performed at the music launch too) and radio stations to promote the movie with his singing.
This is Rohan Sippy’s first attempt at a movie without Abhishek Bachchan, the actor starred in Dum Maaro Dum, Bluffmaster (2005) and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003), this move will probably open up a whole new market for the director’s movies. The promo highlights the two good actors and three women, who honestly look like the only thing we might be scared of.
For the final verdict: Look out for Anupama Chopra’s review tomorrow
