Officials said that eight people had been trapped under the debris, prompting the Delhi Fire Services to launch a rescue operation.
A total of eight people were trapped under the rubble. The DFS said that the locals had removed two people from the rubble before they arrived and shifted them to a hospital for treatment. The rescue teams are looking for other trapped persons.
Commuters on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway faced inconvenience after a waterlogging triggered by incessant rains triggered traffic jams in various parts of the Delhi-NCR on Wednesday.
Orange alert in Delhi
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain in Delhi for Wednesday, forecasting intermittent spells of light to moderate rainfall over most parts of the national capital on Wednesday. Thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall is also expected over isolated places.
WFH advisory of Gurugram offices
Amid heavy downpour, Gurugram Police on Wednesday urged corporate companies to allow employees to work from home.
“To ensure public safety, reduce unnecessary traffic…We strongly urge the corporate sector and private establishments to allow their employees to work from home for the next few days,” Gurugram police said in a post on X.
Police also issued an advisory urging commuters to exercise caution after the main carriageway of the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48) near Narsinghpur caved in due to heavy rainfall, forcing the closure of two lanes.
Meanwhile, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow' alert for moderate rain for Delhi, Gurugram amid heavy rain. UP's Ghaziabad, which neighbours Delhi, was placed under an orange alert by the IMD till at least 1 pm.
Severe waterlogging and massive traffic jams were reported across the NCR on Wednesday. Authorities have rolled out extensive measures to restore normalcy.
Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, at least 10 people have died in Palghar district since July 1, including three fatalities reported in the last 24 hours. In a separate incident, three teenagers drowned in a water-filled quarry near Amalner town in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district on Tuesday evening after one of them reportedly slipped while attempting to take a selfie, police said, according to PTI.
In Mumbai, the BMC said it will conduct a scientific study to determine the reasons behind tree falls during the monsoon, including whether road concretisation weakens tree roots. The city has recorded at least three deaths, including that of an 11-year-old school student, in tree-fall incidents over the past week.
The civic body also said it will begin annual inspections, maintenance and mapping of manholes from January to improve preparedness ahead of the monsoon, PTI reported.
Heavy rainfall continued to cause widespread disruption across several states.
Rescue operations are underway in Kerala's Wayanad after three people died and over nine people are missing in the landslide incident. Teams of NDRF, Police, Fire Department and other govt agencies are involved in the search and rescue mission. Chief Minister VD Satheesan is expected to visit the site, according to ANI.
In Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, a cloudburst was reported on Tuesday. Although no casualties were reported, one or two culverts and bridges built over a local drain were washed away in the flash flood triggered by the cloudburst, according to sources, PTI reported.
El Nino may not impact rainfall
The Centre on Tuesday said the country's rainfall deficit has narrowed to 12 per cent, with the first week of July witnessing above-normal monsoon activity. It also asserted that an El Nino year does not necessarily result in below-normal rainfall, PTI reported.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), a high-level review meeting chaired by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister PK Mishra was held to assess the progress of the kharif season and review preparedness measures in view of the possible impact of El Nino on various sectors of the economy.

Delhi, Gurgaon rain LIVE: Over 115 mm of rainfall was recorded in Gurugram during the last 33 hours, causing waterlogging in several parts of the city and widespread traffic congestion on Wednesday.
According to official data, 83 mm of rainfall was recorded on Tuesday, followed by another 32 mm on Wednesday.
Waterlogging was reported from several areas, including Sectors 31, 39, 40, 44, 45, 46, 56 and 57, as well as Sheetla Mata Mandir Road, Sector-10A, Sectors 14 and 15, Pataudi Road, Basai Road, Kadipur, Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, Basai and the service lane near Narsinghpur on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway.
Traffic moved slowly on several major roads, including the Delhi-Jaipur Highway service lane near Narsinghpur, Basai, Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, Kadipur and Sohna Road, with several vehicles reportedly breaking down in waterlogged stretches.

Weather, rain LIVE: Two labourers from Bihar were killed and four others injured after a landslide triggered by incessant rain hit a construction site in Arunachal Pradesh's Lohit district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident happened around 12.45 pm on Tuesday at Lohitpur, SP Thutan Jamba said.
The deceased were identified as Bipin Kumar (33) and Rahul Kumar (26), he said.
Police and rescue teams pulled out four other labourers who had been trapped under the debris.
One of them sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Lohit Zonal General Hospital, police said.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at Tezu police station in connection with the incident, they said.

The meteorological department said that under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh, widespread rainfall activity is likely to continue across Rajasthan for the next two to three days.
Ramganj Mandi recorded 10 cm of rainfall, followed by Nithuwa in Dungarpur and Badi Sadri in Chittorgarh with 9 cm each. Kathumar in Alwar and Ajmer received 8 cm each, while several other places recorded less than 8 cm during the 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning.
Between Wednesday morning and evening, Dabok in Udaipur received 22.9 mm of rain, Alwar recorded 19.8 mm and Pratapgarh 5.5 mm.
The IMD said isolated places in Udaipur, Kota and adjoining areas of southeastern and eastern Rajasthan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday. Moderate to heavy rain is also expected in parts of the Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions.

The DMO, Dr. P.M. Moideen Shah stated that the bodies were released after embalming procedures were completed at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
The body of Anmol, a native of Jharkhand, has been handed over and will be flown to Ranchi on an IndiGo flight.
DBL officials said the remaining bodies will also be transported to their respective native places, subject to flight availability.
The landslide struck at around 11:15 am on Tuesday within a 200-metre radius of the tunnel construction site at Kalladi in Meppadi Grama Panchayat, burying large portions of the worksite under debris estimated to be 7 to 10 feet deep.
According to the IMD, Wayanad is among the districts placed under a yellow alert on Wednesday, with heavy rainfall of 7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours likely at isolated places. The weather agency has also forecast widespread rain and thundershowers across Kerala on July 8 and warned that strong surface winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely to prevail across the state until July 9.

Safdarjung, the city's base weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius. It received 14.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
It said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rain were very likely over a few districts and thunderstorms with light to moderate rain were likely over the other districts in the next few hours. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40 kmph.
