If the expletives and the toilet humour in Delhi Belly put you off, producer Aamir Khan has only three words for you — Don’t watch it! The actor says that he made the film because he thought it was a funny and entertaining script, but those who find it offensive should not watch it.
“I have a relationship with my audience; I respect them, and that’s why I warned the family audience that there is adult content in the film,” he says, in Rajat Sharma’s TV show Aap Ki Adalat on India TV. In the episode that airs tonight, when a girl in the studio audience tells him that she decided not to watch the film because of the abusive language, Aamir promptly replies, “You did the right thing.”
For those who say that they can’t bear to watch the adult comedy with their families, his advice is, “Watch it with your friends and tell your parents to watch it with their friends.”
The actor, who appears on the show with nephew and Delhi Belly’s lead actor, Imran Khan, also says that he was pleasantly surprised that the censor board passed the film. “I am proud that I live in India where the censor board endorses freedom of speech. I had applied for the ‘A’ certificate on my own although it reduced my audience size by half,” he said.
On why he made the “controversial” film, the actor said it was simply because the script made him laugh. “Maine yeh film banaayi kyunki mujhe bahut hasi aayi.” When asked if he tried to relaunch Imran through this film as his last few films had not fared well, he says, “Even my first film was a hit and then I saw a string of flops. I went through that process and so must Imran.
