And the biggest chunk has apparently come in from the sale of the theatrical rights, which alone have been sold to Eros for Rs 42 crores. “The other rights, including satellite, DVDs and music, have brought the final figure somewhere close to Rs 65 crores,” says a source from the trade.

When contacted, the makers — refusing to comment on exact numbers — confirm that the film’s rights have been sold for a massive amount. “For the first time, such a small budget film has been sold at such an exorbitant price. We are sure it will take Sharman into a different league altogether,” says Sameer Rao, CEO of Vinod Chopra Films.

However, tradesmiths aren’t too surprised. “Ever since the first promo came out, there has been a lot of buzz. These days, if a film’s trailers or teasers create that kind of excitement, they fetch a high price from theatrical, satellite and music rights,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, FKS has been directed by Rajesh Mapuskar. Highlighting a father-son relationship, it will be the first film that Sharman will be seen in after the 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots. Vidya Balan, for the first time, will be seen shaking a leg for an item number ‘Mala jau de’ in the movie that also stars Boman Irani and master Ritvik Sahore.
