She played the coy sister of the groom, essayed by actor-director Parmeet Sethi, and gained a lot of ­popularity for her attempts to flirt with Shah Rukh on screen.

"I got offers to be ­everyone's sister after the film. There used to be a lot of stereotyping back then, so I did not want to do something similar," recalls the 42-year-old.

Mandira shares how it was not an easy job to portray the coy girl, a character that was completely different from her real self.

"I remember one particular scene where we are playing antakshari and I had to sit where Kajol was sitting, and hold Shah Rukh's hand. It was so tough to play that shy girl, as I've not had that kind of upbringing. We had to practice the scene multiple times," she says.

Coming from posh south Mumbai, the film's rustic look, too, came as a surprise to Mandira.
