Hours after Twinkle Khanna gave her opinion on the controversy surrounding husband Akshay Kumar and his former colleague on Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Mallika Dua, the author posted a pair of ‘lame jokes’ on the subject on Twitter. The controversy began after Akshay made an off-colour comment on the show. While the clip was never telecast, the video was later leaked on social media.

Taking to Twitter, Twinkle posted these two jokes: “What is Akshay Kumar’s favourite Gadi? Bell gadi” and “Why did Akshay Kumar go to the mosques? He wanted to hear some duas.” She also wrote, “I couldn’t resist these two and after this I am done :) #LameJokes.” Mallika also retweeted the joke with her own special message.

Taking to Twitter, Mallika pointed out that the comment made her feel uncomfortable. Her father, journalist Vinod Dua, reacted rather angrily in a Facebook post and also demanded an apology from Akshay. His Facebook post was later taken off.

Twinkle took to Twitter on Sunday and wrote, “A pun on the words and actions related to ringing the bell. It’s a colloquial phrase that both men and women use -- for instance, ‘I am going to bajao him/her’ or ‘I got bajaoed’, all without sexist connotations.”

“I have always stood up for the freedom within comedy including defending AIB’s (All India Bakchod’s) infamous roasts on numerous occasions in the past and that is my stance even today, so kindly stop tagging me in this debate,” she further wrote.

Mallika, meanwhile, also shared her version of the events on social media and wrote, “This is not about Akshay Kumar, instead it is about every big star, who cannot differentiate between charm and harm. This is about every big celebrity who thinks his colleague enjoys being grabbed by the waist and twirled without her consent. This is about workplace etiquette for everybody, men and women included, and about understanding the idea of professional communication so we don’t make someone uncomfortable in their place of work, unintentionally or otherwise.”
