In the past few years, actor Jimmy Shergill has been seen in ensemble cast films, and not as the solo lead in any project. The actor, who has done few films as the solo hero, such as Yahaan (2005) and Delhii Heights (2007), admits that his fans find it a bit odd that he doesn’t do solo films anymore.
“I understand that there are many people, especially fans who keep on wondering why I don’t do a solo film. There are many solo films that are offered to me, but they are all very similar. I mean there isn’t much difference in the characters and it’s basically that chocolate boy, who falls in love... that kind of a story. I have done that, and I don’t want to do that anymore.”
Shergill adds that he’d rather be a part of movies with a big cast, as they give him the chance to play “different” roles. “I prefer to be a part of multi starrers, because they give me the opportunity to play different characters, and that’s actually fun to do,” he explains.
However, the 47-year-old, who was last seen as an antagonist in Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz, clarifies that he is “not very choosy” about the roles he takes up. “I won’t say I am very choosy about the films I want to do,” he says, before adding, “Yes, if I have done three films which are dark and intense, [next] I would say yes to a light-hearted comedy — just to get out of the rut and that intensity. Sometimes, it also depends on the state of mind, as in what I am feeling in that particular moment, and then I decide the kind of film I want to do. But, I am definitely not very picky about the roles I want to do.”

{{/usCountry}}“For instance, Bhagwan Das Mishra (his character in Mukkabaaz) and my character in Fugly (2014) are pretty similar. They are out-and-out antagonists. It’s after a while that I played an antagonist. However, I still think that even though both were negative characters, they were very different from each other [in their mannerisms],” he explains.
