As we breathe in the toxic cocktail that passes as air in Delhi, Sanjai Mishra’s monologue about the air itself turning poisonous hits home in Nila Madhab Panda’s Kadvi Hawa.

Two men discuss their lives over a cup of cutting chai. Sanjai Mishra’s visually impaired man -- dressed in just a dhoti -- worries about the perennial drought that farmers in his area are dealing with. Many, when they cannot deal with the drought and debt anymore, kill themselves. We see them as newspaper statistics the next day. He marvels at the luck of the other man has, Ranvir Shorey’s bespectacled character comes from Odisha and is therefore surrounded by water. “Too much water,” bemoans Shorey, bringing back memories of 1999 cyclone that decimated parts of the state. Kadvi Hawa trailer, which came out Monday, is full of such strong visuals.

Both the men are connected in their misery -- victims of climate change which is ravaging their world and they are powerless to do anything to stop it.

As we breathe the toxic cocktail that passes as air in Delhi, Sanjai’s monologue about how the air itself has gone poisonous hits home. As does a student’s question about monsoon -- how can we count rains as a season if we see it happening three or four days in a year?

Directed by Nila Madhab Panda, the film asks questions which are pertinent to our times. It also vividly shows the human cost of climate change.
