Alia Bhatt made her acting debut with Karan Johar’s directorial Student of The Year in 2012, and even after several successful films ever since, she prefers to call Johar her ‘eternal’ mentor. “He (Karan Johar) is a very big influence in my life. I genuinely feel that for a lot of my work ethics and behaviour, I owe it to Karan,” said the 23-year-old actor, during a Delhi visit.
Alia, who has acted in critically acclaimed films such as Highway (2014) and Udta Punjab (2016), says she relates to Karan Johar in a lot of ways. “The way he deals with people, and the way he behaves in his personal and professional life, I feel I am like that a lot too,” she says.
”He’s the example I’ve seen from my first film. My first visual of work was with Karan. My career, acting and films - everything was with him and I don’t mean what I saw on the television and big screen before I became an actor,” she adds.

{{/usCountry}}Earlier this month, Alia appeared on Johar’s TV chat show for the third time, and he even joked that the show had largely been responsible for Alia becoming “infamous” for her lack of general knowledge after she goofed up while naming the Indian President in a previous season of the show.
Alia, however, happily confessed that she was much more prepared this time when she went on the show. “I was slightly more careful this time, and didn’t say a lot of things that could have put me in trouble like my first appearance on the show,” she laughed.
Daughter of actor-filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, Alia draws strong conviction towards work and a sense of entitlement from her father. “I take something from everybody in my life. My dad has been a huge influence in the way I think, or maybe how opinionated I am comes from him.”
About her mother, Soni Razdan, she said, “My mom influences me in softer ways of being understanding, compassionate, and caring towards people. So you can say I am different parts of various people around me.”
