Kunal Kapoor-starrer Veeram is set to premiere at the first BRICS film festival

Kunal Kapoor-starrer historical drama, Veeram, which has been directed by Jayaraj Nair , is set to open the 1st BRICS Film Festival

India is set to host the eighth BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit this year. It will include a trade fair, and an under-17 football tournament. For the first time, the summit will also feature a film festival. The event will be held at Siri Fort, Delhi, from September 2 to 6. Kunal Kapoor’s upcoming historical drama Veeram, directed by Malayalam director Jayaraj Nair, will premiere at the opening night of the festival.

Kunal’s next is a period drama set in the 13th century in Kerala.

A source says, “Jayaraj and Kunal are excited about presenting their film at the prestigious film festival. It is a period drama set in the 13th century in Kerala. Veeram resuscitates the real life character made famous through folklore literature and songs. Sharing broad similarities with the rise and fall of Macbeth, the film spans the journey of Chandu (Kunal), a Kalaripayattu warrior who meets a tragic end as an outcome of betrayal..”Kunal and Jayaraj will also be attending the festival.

When contacted Kunal says, “I’m very excited that we are premiering at the first BRICS Film Festival. We’ve put a lot of effort into making this film and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the audience reacts to it.” Talking about his film’s opening at the festival, six times National Award winning director Jayaraj Nair says, “I am happy and proud in presenting the first screening of my movie, which is an an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth , specially in this quadricentennial of the great writer. The BRICS honour makes the film proud of Shakespeare, Kalari, Kunal and the team members.”

Veeram will be releasing pan India later this year and has been shot in three different languages - Hindi, English and Malayalam with plans to further dub it in Tamil and Telugu.
