However, Ekta recently revealed she hadn’t expected she would like the feminist drama “so much”.

The 42-year-old, while promoting director Alankrita Shrivastava’s film, spoke about the reasons that made her say “yes” to be a part of the film.

“I wanted to do it! I saw the film, I liked it. I didn’t think I would like it so much. I’m not much of a torch bearer for art films. So maybe I have not given them a chance. But mostly I have seen movies that are pretentious, they lack entertainment,” she said.

“But when I saw this movie, it was after a long time that I came across a very bold but very strangely questioning film. It was entertaining and very exclusive. At any point you never felt as if these were people you never knew. You would always feel a part of the movie.”

Producer Ekta Kapoor, actor Aahana Kumra, filmmaker Prakash Jha, filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava, actors Plabita Borthakur, Ratna Pathak and Konkona Sen Sharma during a press conference organised to promote their upcoming film Lipstick Under My Burkha in New Delhi.

Ekta also said she has no clue why other studio heads had a problem being associated with the film.

“To stand and look at a film like this and not be a part of it would have been an extremely sad part, if you are a studio head,” concluded Ekta.

The movie, which speaks about the aspirations of women, was not given a certificate from the CBFC for being too ‘lady oriented’.

Starring Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah among others, Lipstick Under My Burkha is scheduled to release on July 21.
