Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai: Jaipur theatres vandalised over actor’s use of casteist slur

Protesting against Salman Khan’s use of a casteist slur during a TV show, protesters vandalised theatres in Rajasthan and also burnt the actor’s effigy.

After a complaint was filed against Salman Khan for allegedly using derogatory language against the Scheduled Castes in a TV show, protesters vandalised cinema theatres in Jaipur that were screening his film, Tiger Zinda Hai. The protesters reportedly also burnt an effigy of Khan.

An ex-chairman of the Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Harnam Singh, fled a complaint against Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty’s use of the word ‘bh*ngi’ during different TV shows. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has sought a reply from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the police commissioners of Delhi and Mumbai.

Salman had allegedly used the word during the promotion of his film Tiger Zinda Hai, while referring to his dancing skills. Shilpa had reportedly used the word to describe how she looks at home. The NCSC has asked to file a reply on the action taken against the actors as per the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, 2015, within a week.
