Sobhita visits Kamathipura to prep for role of sex-worker in next film, calls it eye opening

The Raman Raghav 2.0 actor says that interacting with sex-workers in Kamathipura, Mumbai, not only helped her prepare for her character in Mothoon, but taught her a lot about their lives.

Actor Sobhita Dhulipala was first seen in the Anurag Kashyap thriller, Raman Raghav 2.0, where she was paired opposite Vicky Kaushal. The former beauty queen was then seen in the Saif Ali Khan starrer, Chef. And it goes without saying that the actor is thrilled with the kind of roles she has been getting in Bollywood and the South Indian film industry.

Sobhita will next be seen playing a sex-worker in the bilingual (Malayalam and Hindi) fantasy adventure film Moothon. In order to prepare herself for the role, the actor recently visited the red light area of Kamathipura in Mumbai, and it turned out to be a life-changing experience for her.

“Being a part of Mothoon was unexpectedly character-building. I play a feisty woman from Kamathipura, the vicious underbelly of Bombay that has one of the largest brothels in the world. Since we mostly shot guerilla style, I got to interact with the families there, and even lived in one of their tiny rooms. In India, people tend to get categorised by their job, or caste, or colour. But in Kamathipura, despite their horrid living, it was truly eye-opening how kind and sensitive these women are,” she says.
