TV premiere of Aligarh mutes the word ‘homosexual’. Hansal Mehta reacts

Aligarh features national-award winning actor Manoj Bajpayee, who essayed Siras, while actor Rajkumar Rao played a journalist.

Critically acclaimed film, Aligarh was shown on TV on Sunday but proved to be a disappointing experience for the viewers as the word ‘homosexual’ and a few scenes from the movie were omitted by the Censor Board.

However, Mehta is happy that the movie got premiered on TV even with all the censorship.

“The words were muted, yes. But the film wasn’t. No point lamenting censorship because it exists. I’m glad Aligarh was shown on TV,” he tweeted.

“Last night’s responses to the film are telling- everyone who saw the film realized it was about a gay professor inspite of the word homosexual being muted,” he wrote.

Aligarh is a film based on the real life incident of Dr. Srinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was suspended from his job because of his sexual orientation.
