Two guys and a pig

After his acclaimed debut in Udaan, actor Rajat Barmecha takes on a youth comedy with Vivaan Shah and a specially trained animal.

After debuting with a serious role in Udaan (2010), Rajat Barmecha is moving away from the genre. He’s signed a funky film called Disco Valley, which also stars Naseeruddin Shah’s younger son, Vivaan. “In the film, we will take a road trip along with a pig,” says Rajat, happy to have the Saat Khoon Maaf (2011) youngster as his co-star. A specially trained pig will be flown from Australia for the film produced by irock and directed by Sajit Warrier.

Talking about the project, Rajat says, “After Udaan, I didn’t want to do another serious drama. I chose Disco Valley as it’s a fun comedy about the guys’ adventures during a trip. I wanted a role that could showcase another side of me.”

Sources claim the film will have the fun element of Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD, 2011), with an ample dose of naughtiness similar to Hollywood’s American Pie and The Hangover series. Though Rajat refrains from commenting about the ‘inspirations’, he says, “Disco Valley will have cool guy humour with a bit of naughtiness. I love casual films like The Hangover and ZNMD. These movies are pure entertainment.”

Post his debut, he did a cameo in Anurag Basu and Bejoy Nambiar’s film Shaitaan (2011), which “was fun. I enjoyed playing the negative role.” He also did two short films, Gulmohar and The Finish Line. The latter went on to win a National Award, which Udaan, many claim, lost out on only by a whisker.
