Sung by Lata Mangeshkar, it is the only song written by Ramesh Shastri for this film and is still remembered for its lyrics even after 60 years. The song uses violins and flutes to create a hilly atmosphere and show a mountain maid crooning.

The song and the film made several careers. It was the first hit for Raj Kapoor’s banner and established the team of RK-Nargis-Shanker-Jaikishan-Hasrat-Shailendra. It was after Barsaat’s success that Kapoor bought RK studios in 1950.
