Food price index up 9.01 %

India's food price index rose 9.01 % and the fuel price index climbed 12.46 % in the year to May 28, government data showed today. In the previous week, annual food and fuel inflation stood at 8.06 % and 12.54 % respectively.

The primary articles price index was up 11.52 %, compared with an annual rise of 10.87 % a week earlier.

The weekly food inflation has eased after staying in double digits for much of 2010, but headline inflation at 8.66 % in April remains considerably above the central bank's comfort level and is seen pressuring interest rates higher.
