State-run Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) on Thursday signed memorandum of understandings (MoUs) worth over Rs 1 lakh crore with various companies for enhancing its cargo handling capacity and building of shipyards, at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2011.
A total of 97 MoUs were signed by GMB with various companies for handling bulk cargo, LNG, coal, crude oil and petrochemicals, development of greenfield port and for shipbuilding and repairing Yard complexes.
GMB signed a Rs 8,000-crore MoU with Adani HPPL Ltd for the development of bulk and general cargo terminal at Hazira in Surat, while it has inked a Rs 7,000-crore deal with GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd for new port facilities, maritime city and private coal terminal and LNG terminal in Jamnagar district.
For development of a greenfield port, it has signed an MoU worth Rs 5,000 crore with Shapoorji Paloonji Co Ltd. The port will come up at Chhara in Jungadh district with capacity to handle eight MMTPA of coal, according to officials.
GMB has also signed MoUs with several companies for shipyard and shipbuilding activities.
