After reports of misuse of the BPL (below poverty line) tag by the affluent class, for seeking free 100-metre plots being offered to BPL families by the Haryana government, the Gurgaon administration has decided to mark the houses of such families with paint, which will read ‘BPL Parivaar/Family’.
The Haryana government had announced it would gift 100-metre sq yard plots to all BPL families free of cost, in the entire state, including Gurgaon.
There have been reports that many affluent families with adequate income resources and living standards have managed to put down their names under the BPL list using political influences.
According to additional deputy commissioner Abhe Singh, the state government had issued instructions to tag the houses of the BPL families by painting them with ‘BPL Parivar/ Family’.
“We are going to start the exercise in a couple of days. This move is aimed at discouraging the forged BPL status acquired by the affluent people who actually do not fall in the category of BPL,” he said.
Out of 92,235 families residing in the rural areas of Gurgaon, 22,211 families have figured in the BPL list that has been published by the government so far.

{{/usCountry}}Singh said about 2,000 fresh applications for the inclusion of names in the BPL list have also been filed and the departments concerned were scrutinising their claims.
The state government has also invited applications from the poorer section who have been left out from the BPL list. The deadline for this has been fixed as September 30.
Following the directions, the district administration has started the process of accepting claims and objections on the BPL list.
Senior officials said though genuine poor families were earlier given two chances for inclusion of their names in BPL lists, if any deserving family is still left out, they could still apply in the office of the ADC by September 30 for including their names in the BPL list.
Likewise, the name of ineligible family would be deleted from the list after it is scrutinised, or objections are received. Such objections should also be filed in the ADC’s office by September 30.
