M-cap of top 9 companies tank Rs 58,987 cr; ONGC, RIL hit hard

Amid a weak stock market, top-nine Sensex companies saw a cumulative loss of Rs 58,987 crore in market capitalisation (m-cap) last week, with energy majors RIL and ONGC taking the hardest hit among the blue-chips.

Amid a weak stock market, top-nine Sensex companies saw a cumulative loss of Rs 58,987 crore in market capitalisation (m-cap) last week, with energy majors RIL and ONGC taking the hardest hit among the blue-chips.

Over the past week, the stock market benchmark Sensex lost 530.66 points or 2.5% to 20,666.15.

While TCS, RIL, ITC, ONGC, CIL, HDFC Bank, Bharti and HUL saw losses in their market value, Infosys on the other hand made gains.

The m-cap of ONGC plummeted by Rs 10,695 crore to Rs 2,37,243 crore, making it the worst performer among the top-10 companies.

After ONGC, another energy major RIL saw its valuation plunge Rs 10,662 crore to Rs 2,82,872 crore.

FMCG giant ITC's value tanked Rs 8,759 crore to Rs 2,53,289 crore, while telecom major Bharti Airtel suffered a loss of Rs 8,535 crore to Rs 1,37,510 crore from its m-cap.

The market-cap of mortgage lender HDFC slipped by Rs 6,739 crore to Rs 1,26,128 crore, while HDFC Bank took a hit of Rs 6,614 crore to Rs 1,56,196 crore in its value.

In contrast, the m-cap of Infosys rose by Rs 4,479 crore to Rs 1,92,799 crore.

The list of top-10 companies was led by TCS, RIL, ITC, ONGC, Infosys, CIL, HDFC Bank, Bharti, HUL and HDFC.
