Sensex ends 36 points down

The Bombay Stock Exchange, which opened at 17,604.31 points, closed at 17,548.73 points (provisional) -- down 36.14 points or 0.21 per cent from its previous close at 17,584.87 points.

A benchmark index of Indian equities ended 36 points lower on Friday, bringing an end to a lacklustre day of trading.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,604.31 points, closed at 17,548.73 points (provisional) -- down 36.14 points or 0.21 per cent from its previous close at 17,584.87 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 5,250.9 points, against its previous close at 5,259.9 points, a loss of nine points or 0.17 per cent.

Broader market indices also gave up some of the gains but still ended in the green, with the BSE midcap index ending 0.24 per cent up and the BSE small cap index 0.32 per cent higher.

The market breadth was tilted towards the negative with 1,514 stocks declining compared to 1,406 advancing and 71 remaining unchanged.
