Haryana has been given Rs 24 crore, under 13th Finance Commission, for construction of 18 alternative dispute resolution (ADR) centres in the state to provide free legal aid to people.
Justice Satish Kumar Mittal of Punjab and Haryana high court and executive chairman of Haryana state legal services authority said this while laying the foundation stone of one such ADR centre in Jind on Saturday.
This would be sixth such centre to be constructed in the state at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore.
He said that these ADR centres were being set up at the district headquarters in the state.
In the centres, the office of general secretary and chairman of district legal services authority would be set up and justice provided to people through lok adalats.
He said setting up of the centers would benefit scheduled castes, dependents of ex-servicemen, people with income less than Rs 1.5 lakh per annum, physically and mentally challenged people, children and women.
Justice Mittal said camps would be held in rural areas and free legal knowledge would be provided to the people by the volunteers.
