The police said Sector 45 resident, Manpreet Singh, has been booked for sending the fake resignation mail from Dhaliwal’s personal email id. Dhaliwal lodged a complaint against Singh.

The party had complained to the senior superintendent of police that the id, roopinderdhaliwaal@gmail.com, was being used to send misleading and malicious emails, including Dhaliwal’s resignation.

The resignation email was copied to national leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Chandigarh AAP candidate Gul Panag and the state committee.

The police registered a case of forgery and criminal conspiracy as well as 66- A (sending offensive messages through communication service, etc.), 66-C (identity theft) and 66-D (cheating by impersonation by using computer resource) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, against Singh.

The cops further said Singh and Dhaliwal were not in good terms with each other.
