Bank unions to go on 2-day strike from today

Operations at public sector banks will be affected as employee unions have decided to go on a two-day nation-wide strike from Monday. Following this, all public sector banks will remain closed in the tricity.
Bank employees under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) will observe two-day strike to press for their demands regarding wage revision and other related issues.
The bank employees in Chandigarh will assemble outside the Bank of India, Sector17B, and will carry out a rally up to State Bank of India, main branch, Sector 17. The employees will hold this rally to mark their protest against the central government.
Private-sector players such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank are expected to function normally and the All India State Bank Officers' Federation and All India State Bank of India Staff Federation, being part of UFBU, will also participate in the strike.
SBI to place cash deposit boxes
To avoid inconvenience to be faced by the common public, the SBI further will be placing a cash deposit boxes at different locations in the city. The locations identified for placing such machines include SBI main branch in sector 17; administration office near Sindhi Sweets, Sector 17; SBI PGI branch; and at booth No 57 at scooter market in Sector 40C. The residents can visit these branches for depositing cash.
Meanwhile, since the strike is after the weekend and is announced for two days, the ATMs of nationalised banks are expected to run out of cash. In all there are 357 ATMs in the city for nationalised banks.
