The protesters were led by BJP general secretary Vijay Goel, Chandigarh BJP President Sanjay Tandon and other leaders including former MP Satya Pal Jain and Harmohan Dhawan.

The procession of about 50 horse-carts started off from the party's Chandigarh headquarters in Sector 33 and travelled to Sector 23 via various City Sectors including 34, 20 and 22.

Goel said that Saturday's protest was part of the BJP's national campaign to protest the hike in prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and other essential commodities.

"The Congress led UPA has no concern for the common man, who has been burdened by yet another hike. We will force the government to rollback the hiked prices," he said.

Tandon said that ever since the UPA came to power, prices had been spiraling.
