Chandigarh: 4-yr-old rape victim’s family to get Rs 8 lakh

Coming to the aid of the family of a four-yearold girl of Colony Number 4, who was recently killed after being sexually assaulted, chief judicial magistrate Anubhav Sharma on Thursday directed the UT administration to pay Rs 8 lakh compensation to the girl’s parents.

The court granted compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme of the UT administration. The victim’s father had moved an application under the scheme seeking a financial assistance.

The victim’s father, who works in a city mall, said his daughter was kidnapped on Friday evening and her body was recovered on Saturday. The police had apprehended a juvenile for sexually assaulting and murdering the four-year-old. “I have two more daughters and I have not got any financial assistance from any quarter,” the victim’s father had said.

The court held: “The applicant is entitled to the assistance due to crime against his daughter. Considering the antecedents and the nature of the crime, he is entitled to the assistance of Rs 3 lakh for sexual assault and Rs 5 lakh for loss of life.”
