As much as 2,200 UT police personnel have been deployed for the visit of President Pranab Mukherjee who will be in the city on Saturday for the convocation programme of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh.
Apart from awarding the students at the convocation, he will be visiting the Raj Bhawan and ayurveda fair at PU.
Chandigarh SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said they had adopted special security arrangements for the VVIP visit as all the IPS officers, along with other senior police officials of the city, are involved in the security arrangements for the President’s visit.
2,200 cops deployed, no route diversion
A total 2,200 officials of the Chandigarh police, apart from IPS officers, 20 DSPs, 40 inspectors, have been deployed to keep an eye on the miscreants during the VVIP visit. The personal security of the President has also been beefed up. The police have not diverted any route, but have decided to block the road from where the cavalcade will pass.
The police said sharp shooters from Chandigarh police and other security agencies will be deputed on the entire route of the President’s visit from Chandigarh airport to Panjab University campus.

Avoid these roads today
Though police has not revealed the route map because of security reasons, it has been learnt that the cavalcade would pass through Poultry Chowk, Tribune Chowk, transport light point, Sector 26, front of Governor house, Sector 4, Sector 11-12 and PGI side to PU.
PU entry restricted from Gate 1 till 2 pm
No vehicles will be allowed on the road from PU gate No. 1 (PGI side) to administrative block and from administrative block to gymnasium hall on Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm. Gate No. 2 and 3 to be open for staff members, students, guests and other residents.
