The city airport will remain closed on November 15 and 16 due to the maintenance of runway. Sources in the airport said all airlines have been informed and directions have been issued for taking necessary steps for the convenience of passengers.
A senior official from Jet Airways, which operates five flights from the city airport, said the airlines had already conveyed to the passengers about their cancellation of flights and stopped the future booking.
Several other airlines have also rescheduled the flights for these two days.
Being a defence airport, 12 wing of Indian Air Force manages the runway and it has been undertaking the maintenance work for the past one year by closing the airport on first and third Sunday of every month after 1 pm.
“The commercial operation is suspended for two days to further accelerate the airstrip maintenance work,” said a senior airport official, further adding that local runway had lasted several years without a major overhaul.
New winter schedule out
New winter schedule have been introduced in the city airport. There are no major changes in the timings of the existing operations, except Air Asia’s Chandigarh-Bangalore flight which has been advanced to 1 pm. “Most of the airlines may cancel their morning and evening flights for December and January due to fog. The final call will be taken after mid-December,” said an airline official.
