Punjab deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said development was the issue on which the party was seeking the votes of Moga electorates.
After a meeting called to review the Moga bypoll strategy here, Badal said the Congress had virtually conceded the defeat before the voting and this is why both Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh and AICC Member Jagmeet Singh Brar had alleged hacking of EVMs in the 2012 assembly elections.
He added that the state government would not mind if the Congress leaders wanted to send the EVMs for the February 23Moga bypoll to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for investigation.
The SAD president said he had given a call to the SAD and BJP workers and rank and file to shift the entire focus to Moga bypoll with immediate effect while he was addressing the workers last evening here.
He claimed that SAD would win the Moga bypoll with thumping majority inflicting severe defeat to Congress. He also stated that there were no differences between the alliance partners over the nomination of Joginderpal Jain as SAD candidate and both the parties are united to fight the byelection.
Badal had also asked the party workers of both the alliance partners to avoid violation of Election Commission's code of conduct.
He ridiculed the demand by the Congress for the deployment of Central forces to conduct Moga bypoll. He assured the people of the state for fair and free poll by the state police.
In reply to a question, Badal said that SAD was actively considering the issue of fielding candidates in the Sikh dominant states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on the party symbol.
He also stated that SAD would go along with the NDA decision on the Prime Ministerial candidate.
SAD has nominated Jain, who resigned from the Congress and joined the SAD on December 26 and the bypoll was necessiated because of his resignation from legislature.
