In the first incident, nine cabins were destroyed when a fire broke out in SCO 179-180 in Sector 8 on Wednesday. Similarly, a fire broke out in SCO 100 in Sector 35 on Tuesday evening.
A loss of nearly Rs 8-10 lakh has been estimated in the fire in Sector 8.
According to fire officers, they received a call at 8.04 am, when a passer-by informed them about smoke billowing out from one of the shops. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and they doused the flames within 40 minutes.
Two workers of the fire department got injured during the fire-fighting operation. However, no loss of life has been reported.
The owner of the SCO 179-180 had sublet 12 booths to various people to run their business operations. Of these 12 booths, nine were reduced to ashes. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Chief fire officer SK Gosain said most of the material stored in the shop was reduced to ashes, but within 40 minutes fire was in control.
"The fire spread due to the presence of furniture items, including sofa set, chairs, tables, in the booths. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained, but it seems short circuit may be the reason. There was no fire-fighting system in the showroom for which we are going to issue notices to the booth owners," he added.
Tragedy averted In a similar incident, a fire broke out on the first floor of SCO 100 in Sector 35 on Tuesday, which was used as workshop of jewellery shop. The fire broke out due the leakage from LPG cylinder.
Major incident was averted as five employees sleeping on the first floor managed to leave the floor soon after the fire broke out.
