Though the students from the government schools could not outshine those from private school in CBSE Class 12 results which were declared on Monday, still the toppers among the city government schools have managed attract attention. Four out of five toppers from these government schools are girls hence dominating the results once again.
Nirmal Sharma, student of GMSSS-16, bagged the first spot in commerce stream with 98.6% marks. The school has produced two other toppers including Rattan Kaur and Ishita Uppal who scored 96.2% marks in nonmedical and humanities streams, respectively.
Akshita Gupta, student of GMSSS-33, bagged the first spot in medical stream with 96% marks. Nandini Mehta, student of GMSSS-40 topped in vocational stream with 91.4% marks.
Nirmal hails from Nawa Shehar, Punjab and is focusing hard to get admission in BCom at Delhi University. “The credit of my success goes to my sisters and my mother. They have always supported me in my life and because of them I could achieve this result.
I am also very lucky that I got endless support from my teachers as they motivated me enough to do well,” said Sharma. His father works as a pharmacist and mother is an assistant lecturer.
Ishita Uppal, who topped in humanities, is a resident of Panchkula. She won the Asian Girl Human Rights award which was presented to her in Taiwan during a glittering ceremony in December last year. Ishita was awarded for campaign against the declining gender ratio in north India.

Akshita Gupta, medical topper, aspires to be a doctor. “I am very clear about my goal. I want to be a doctor and thus I am aiming to qualify MBBS entrance for AIIMS.
As my father is a principal at a government school in Ambala and my mother is a lecturer, I know the value of education,” she said. Rattan Kaur, who topped in non-medical, aspires to be a computer engineer.
