The health department has instructed all drug inspectors to intensify checking of drug retailers and chemists to check the sale of banned drugs.

Announcing this here on Thursday, principal secretary, health and family welfare, Vini Mahajan, said that in the ongoing campaign against drugs, the government was providing all help to drug users to get rid of the menace by providing them medical and psychological treatment at drug de-addiction centres.

She said the health department had launched a campaign to make such a system that no person would be able to get any sort of drugs/medicines from the medical stores without the prescription of the competent authority.

Mahajan said drug inspectors had been told to regularly inspect medical stores to curb malpractices and send reports on daily basis to the headquarters.

She said the government had also transferred some drug inspectors as per requirements in the districts to strengthen the checking system to stop the sale of banned drugs.
