The Punjab cabinet on Tuesday allowed the information and public relations department to hire an online social media agency for policy awareness campaigns.
It also approved building the Punjab State Institute of Sports (PSIS) in SAS Nagar to create a large pool of athletes. The players with potential will train under reputed domestic and foreign coaches in modern complexes.
The government decided to also waive the water-user charges on Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation (PWRMDC) tubewells, which are Rs 1 per unit for the Kandi area, and Rs 1.60 per unit of electricity consumed for the other areas. Also waived are Rs 6.50 crore arrears recoverable from the shareholders of these tube wells. The state government had, earlier, levied charges on the water supplied through tube-wells.
The cabinet approved converting the ordinance about water cess of Rs 50 per acre per crop to use the money for the maintenance, upkeep, and modernisation of the canals. It decided to ratify amending the Constitution (121st Amendment) Bill, 2014, and National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, 2014, as passed by both houses of Parliament.

If a corporation or committee now delays deciding on the matters of public interest, or is unable to decide in the absence of an elected house, the state government will be competent to decide in its place in public interest.
