The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued notice to the Haryana government and Olympic medallist Vijender Singh after he signed a professional boxing contract without taking the government into confidence.

Vijender is a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) with the Haryana government.
The court took suo motu cognisance of recent news reports that said that the government had been using taxpayers’ money to provide facilities to sportspersons and Vijender had entered into a contract with a professional boxing firm without even informing the government.
