Going tech, the UT police has this time installed around 50 close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the Rose garden, Sector 16, and Leisure Valley, Sector 10, where the rose festival is underway.
For this, the special control rooms have been set up at both the places and a cop has been deployed at each control room to monitor any suspicious activity.
A mobile control room van that receives and transmits wireless messages has also been stationed at the entry gates, which has drastically reduced manual patrolling, and has helped cops to keep a check on any suspicious activity.
Talking to HT, a cop seeking anonymity said, “The close circuit television cameras are very helpful in keeping a tab on activities. Also, apart from doing their duty, cops can now also enjoy programmes.”
Earlier, only manual patrolling was used at the Rose Garden and Leisure Valley, and considering the high footfall to the festival, cops — in absence of CCTVs — had to remain on toes.
Talking about difference after the installation of CCTVs at these places, he added, “The adoption of technology has helped us but has also disturbed the old basic patrolling system, as the manual patrolling help giving minute-to-minute details of activities, which is not possible with cameras.”
“This time, basic policing is missing, and cops were deployed only to show their presence considering the less workload of patrolling in the venue,” said a visitor.

A cop deployed at mobile control room said, “The announcements regarding missing children are also being done through the public announcement system.”
Station house officer (SHO), Sector 17 police station, Uday Pal Singh, said around 50 cameras installed at these places had helped us in routine patrolling.
