In a daring daylight robbery, two masked men intruded into the house of a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Phase 4 and decamped with Rs 12,000 on Monday morning.
House owner Harcharan Singh is the office secretary of SAS Nagar BJP wing, and has remained general secretary of the local BJP unit earlier.
In her complaint to police, Singh’s wife Narinder Kaur, 61, said she was alone at home when two masked men, armed with knives, barged into her house around 8am. She alleged that one of the accused held her at knifepoint and demanded all the cash in the house. When she refused to divulge any details, they locked her up in the washroom, ransacked the whole house and decamped with `12,000 in cash, while leaving a few thousands on a table.
She managed to get out of the washroom and sounded the police, following which senior police officials, including senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and SP reached the spot. The police said investigation was on and the accused would be traced soon.
