Lieutenant General Philip Campose, who took over the reins of the Western Command recently, paid courtesy calls on Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, governor Shivraj Patil and Haryana governor Jagannath Pahadia on Tuesday.
The newly appointed Army Commander discussed issues of mutual interest pertaining to Punjab and Haryana during his visit. He highlighted the need for enhancing resettlement opportunities for retiring army personnel. The issues regarding training of youth for recruitment as officers in the Indian Army and assistance for disaster relief were also discussed.
Lieutenant General Campose is scheduled to meet Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday.
