The local flying squad -1 of Punjab vigilance bureau (VB), caught an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Ludhiana, red-handed, for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000, on Friday. The accused was produced at the district court in SAS Nagar and sent to judicial custody.
Sanjeev Bhatt, inspector, VB, who was part of the squad, said, Gurbaksh Singh, a resident of Ludhaina and relative of under trial Kuldeep Singh, in his complaint alleged that ASI Balbir Singh was demanding Rs 20,000 from him to produce the papers regarding the bail of an under trial who was booked by Ludhiana's Division Number 5 police, in a fraud case sometimes ago.
The deal was finalised at Rs 15,000 and the bribe amount was to be paid on Friday, which was also the next date (November 22) of Kuldeep Singh's hearing.
Bhatt said a trap was laid and Balbir Singh was caught red-handed by VB sleuths outside the court complex in Ludhiana. Balbir Singh was later produced at the SAS Nagar court and sent to judicial custody.
In October, the same squad had caught ASI Shingara Singh, posted at Kharar police station (city), red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for including a name in the FIR from an Ambala resident.
