Now, city’s heritage furniture to go under hammer in Paris

With not many steps being taken by the Chandigarh administration to preserve its heritage furniture, different houses across the world are earning good amount of money by auctioning articles designed by Le Corbusier’s cousin Pierre Jeanneret.

With not many steps being taken by the Chandigarh administration to preserve its heritage furniture, different houses across the world are earning good amount of money by auctioning articles designed by Le Corbusier’s cousin Pierre Jeanneret.

After auctions by Chicago-based Wright Auction house, Paris-based Artcurial auction house has scheduled an auction for Monday. The house is set to earn thousands of Euros by selling 14 heritage items at the auction, as per their website.

Wright Auction house had started auctioning Chandigarh’s furniture from 2008 onwards. Till last year, it had held 234 auctions where it had sold 204 items earning over Rs 10 crore.

While these foreign auction houses knowing the worth of such fur niture have ear ned a colossal wealth, the UT had dumped the furniture and later auctioned it as part of junk. Now, the same administration is busy for ming policies to save whatever little heritage furniture has been left in the city.
