Keeping in view the popularity of Whats App, the police have decided to go a step further and connect with residents through the application.

The Chandigarh police number will be publicised through advertisements and notices.

UT SSP Maneesh Chaudhry said, “The number will be flashed and whoever wants can get connected by sending a message. The residents can upload any picture of traffic violation and even send suggestions through smartphones.”

He added, “We got a good response to the Facebook page and residents uploaded pictures of violations such as wrong parking, triple riding and other such offences. The police took action after going through the pictures.”

The Facebook page is used by residents to upload pictures of traffic violations and misuse of rules by the VVIPS in the city. The police, after noting down the violations, send the challan to the resident’s address. As of now, the Chandigarh police have more than 23,000 likes on their page.

A cell will be created which will be responsible for keeping track of messages on WhatsApp.

The police will also send information to the residents through the application.
