RP Upadhyay on Wednesday took over charge as inspector general of police (IGP)of Chandigarh.

47-year-old, 1991 batch IPS officer of AGMUS cadre, Upadhyay was earlier posted with Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi as additional director.

Addressing after taking over the charge here, Upadhyay said that crime prevention,community policing,using modern techniques, and satisfying every resident coming to the police station would be the effort of chandigarh police.
Upadhyay's name was cleared by ministry of home affairs (MHA).The post of IGP fell vacant after former DGP P K Srivastva retirement on November 30.
